Karlee

Shake & Burlesque Instructor

Karlee Misipeka (she/her) is a Maori/Niuean Performing Artist living on Gadigal land (Sydney, Australia). 

She began her Performing Arts career in professional Musical Theatre; ‘Hairspray the Musical’ (2011 Lyric Theatre Sydney and Princess Theatre Melbourne, Dainty), ‘A Chorus Line’ where she played lead role Diana Morales (2012 Sydney Capitol Theatre/International tour, TML), and ‘Barnum’ (2018 Comedy Theatre Melbourne, StoreyBoard). 

 

Credits include; ‘The Witch of Kings Cross’ Produced and Directed by Sonia Bible, The Australian Dance Awards, The Helpmann Awards, ‘Girl and Body’ Directed by Charlotte Mars, TVC's for Lexus, Royal Caribbean, AMF. 

Karlee has toured in the Burlesque show ‘The Empire Strips Back’ (Prod. Russall Beatie) in 2017-2022 playing Slave Leia and Princess Leia. She was also a Burlesque cast member of ‘La Femme’ (Vanguard Sydney 2020, Produced by Porcelain Alice and Bella Louche, as well as ‘Mr Falcons Burlesque’, ‘Royal Heart Revue’, Employees Only, and SVDS own ‘Martini Lounge’. 

 

In 2016 Karlee studied the culture and dance that is Vogue and Ballroom. She traveled to the Mother-place, New York City, becoming an ‘Amazon’ House member under Mother Leiomy Maldonado. 

She is now the Mother of her own house, House of Luna, est. 2017. 

As a QWOC, she has performed in various queer spaces including The Oyster Club, Imperial Hotel, Newtown Hotel, Biconic, Betty Grumble Sundays, Unicorns, Heaps Gay, as well as representing and competing in Sissy Ball and West Ball. 

 

2021 saw Karlee travel to Hobart to perform at ‘Dark Mofo', and in 2022 will be touring with ‘The Empire Strips Back’ for their 10th Anniversary performances. 

 

As well as her plethora of performance experience, Karlee has been teaching singing, dancing and acting for 17 years, to both kids and adults.
